Patient safety is the cornerstone of high-quality health care. Nurses are critical to the surveillance and coordination that reduce such adverse outcomes. Nursing is an ever evolving field and nurses are responsible to continue their education to help improve patient outcomes. Studies have shown that higher education can make the difference in patient safety in many situations, including hands-on administration of medication and treatments, proficiency with new technologies, the ability to glean important clues from day-to-day contact with patients, coordinating care between multidisciplinary teams, and accurately and effectively communicating care instructions to families.
